Khammam: Telangana State Press Academy chairman Allam Narayana said on Monday that the government would spend Rs 10 crore for the welfare of journalists this year alone.

Academy chairman Allam Narayana spoke to press persons at a programme organised at the Training and Technology Development Centre. He stated that various issues of journalists had been taken to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s notice.

“They would be resolved at the earliest.”

Narayana said the education scheme for children of journalists and provision of health cards for the families of journalists has been introduced for the first time in Telangana.

He asked journalists to play key role in the reconstruction of Telangana as they had played a vital role in achieving the State. TUWJ (electronic media) State president Ramana, vice-president H Ramesh, district president Adinarayana were present.

Narayana also met Collector Dr K Ilambarithi and requested to hand over 10.20 acres of government land allocated to the Journalist Housing Society. He informed that the State government had issued a GO 206 on February 20, 2009, allocating the land to 102 journalists in survey number 147 at Velugumatla.

He said handing over of the land to the society was stopped due to various reasons, including a case in the high court. “Later, the Rajiv Vidya Mission had constructed a building for Kasturba Gandhi School in the same land.” Narayana brought to the Collector’s notice that the land belonged to the society. He requested the Collector to cancel the orders issued by his predecessor on March 14, 2013, allowing construction of the school. He said that journalists would pay the price for the fixed by the government. Ilambarithi assured him to take appropriate measures after examining the case details.
