District-level NSS programme officer’s meet was held at Vidyarthi Degree College here on Tuesday. The meet was aimed at discussing the role of NSS programme officers and volunteers in conducting service activities in the present scenario in the society.

Adilabad: District-level NSS programme officer’s meet was held at Vidyarthi Degree College here on Tuesday. The meet was aimed at discussing the role of NSS programme officers and volunteers in conducting service activities in the present scenario in the society. NSS state liaison officer for Telangana Satyanarayana Reddy, Kakatiya University programme co-coordinator B Suresh Lal and others attended the meeting.

The speakers stressed the need to promote rural students’ development and to encourage their involvement in various service activities for the benefit of the society. Special campaign programmes like, construction of community toilets, road repairs and formation, literacy to the illiterate people in the village should be taken up more frequently.

Suresh Lal suggested that linkage between community and college and college and village activities be made. He emphasised need to promote Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals of developing rural India with facilities like roads, education institutions, hospitals and knowledge based agriculture.

The NSS volunteers should focus their activities on Swachh Bharat, awareness on black magic and other community development programmes, he said. Satyanarayana Reddy said that the NSS volunteers while taking part in community development activities should also strive for their individual personality development. He suggested that training programmes in communication skills, soft skills and job skill development be conducted for the benefit of NSS volunteers.
