As per the directions of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Cyberabad Police has launched a month-long dedicated campaign called ‘Operation Smile’ from January 1 to 31. It formed 11 Task Force teams to rescue children.The campaign aims to identify, track, locate, rescue and rehabilitate children who were either kidnapped or left home on their own and have been subjected to abuse, exploitation or employed as child labourers.

Hyderabad: As per the directions of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Cyberabad Police has launched a month-long dedicated campaign called ‘Operation Smile’ from January 1 to 31. It formed 11 Task Force teams to rescue children.The campaign aims to identify, track, locate, rescue and rehabilitate children who were either kidnapped or left home on their own and have been subjected to abuse, exploitation or employed as child labourers.

Every task force team is headed by one Sub-Inspector and four constables, who are trained by CID on December 27, on various provisions of Child-related legislations. DCP-Malkajgiri, Rama Rajeshwari, will be the nodal officer for this operation. Cyberabad Commissioner of Police, C V Anand, had nominated 43 Sub-Inspectors as Child Welfare Officers (CWOs) in each police station in November 2014.

These CWOs will assist the task force teams in tracing the missing children. Orientation training was conducted at the Commissionerate HQ for these police personnel on Saturday. In Cyberabad Commissionerate, till December 31, 926 missing cases were reported, in that 703 cases were detected, including 226 boys and 477 girls. 223 cases are yet to be traced. As part of this campaign, these cases will be investigated on priority basis.
