Beedi workers take out a rally from NTR Mini Stadium to RDO’s office

Nirmal (Adilabad): Beedi workers under the banner of the Telangana Progressive Beedi Workers Union took out a massive rally from the NTR Mini Stadium to the office of the Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) here on Tuesday opposing the Centre’s decision to carry pictorial depiction of threat of throat cancer on beedi packets beginning from April 1, 2015. Later, the beedi workers submitted a memorandum to the RDO. Addressing the gathering, union state president Vanamala Krishna said that it was not right on the part of the Central government to issue a GO for carrying pictorial depiction of throat cancer on beedi packets as it would harm the interests of beedi workers. He demanded that the Centre should withdraw its GO immediately.

Bhainsa: Beedi workers in large numbers participated in a public meeting at the cotton market yard here on Tuesday opposing the Union Government’s decision to publish pictorial warning of throat cancer on beedi packets. Later, they took out a rally from the cotton market yard to the office of MRO. Leaders of beedi workers’ unions and local BJP leaders also took part in the rally.
