Hyderabad: The Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are claiming the legacy of making Telangana State a reality. Both the parties are gearing up to celebrate the first anniversary of passing of the AP State Reorganisation Bill 2014 on February 20. It may be recalled that the Lok Sabha had passed the Bill amidst a warlike situation on February 18 and the Rajya Sabha on February 20 with the support of the BJP.

Hence both the parties now want to claim that the new State had become a reality because of them. The Telangana unit of BJP has praised its Central leadership for the support it extended to pass the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill one year ago and the TPCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah wrote a letter to Sonia Gandhi thanking her for the bold decision she had taken to make the 60-year-old dream of the people of Telangana a reality.

While the Congress is likely to take out a rally to Martyrs Memorial on Friday, the BJP will hold a meeting in the party office and will take a pledge to see that the government works in the direction of taking the State forward on the path of development. According BJP spokesperson Krishna Sagar, the TRS government was not working in the right direction to develop the new State of Telangana.

He said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao appeared non-serious on the development of Telangana and implementation of promises that he made during the elections and after formation of his government. Meanwhile, the JAC leaders led by Prof M Kondaram and others offered floral tributes at Martyrs Memorial near Clock Tower in Secunderabad.
