Hyderabad: The DCP (South) V Satyanarayana on Thursday refuted allegations levelled against two constables for creating nuisance by beating an old couple under Madannapet police limits in an inebriated condition. The constables, J Thilak Raj (PC 7277) and Shiva Prasad (PC 2599), both attached to Musheerabad police station, went to execute the long-pending non-bailable warrant against one G Anil Kumar of Chawni, Madannapet, who was involved in an assault and criminal intimidation case in 2008.

“Some media reports stated that on Wednesday two police constables in drunken state manhandled and beat up an old couple, but it was a false allegation and a rumour spread by the locals,” the DCP explained. “When the police tried to take Anil Kumar to police station, one Ajay intervened and a scuffle ensued between them. Anil’s parents tried to stop the fight and in the process he received minor injuries,” the officer said, adding that the cops were neither in drunken state nor they tried to handcuff anybody; they just discharged their legitimate duty as court issued NBW against Anil. The DCP also said the cops were sent to Osmania Hospital for alcoholic test and doctors certified that they have not consumed alcohol. “The ACP (Santhoshnagar) has been asked to submit a report on the matter,” he said.
