Hussainsagar Lake treated water to be on sale from April

Hussainsagar Lake has two Sewerage Treatment plants with a capacity of 20 million litres a day (mld) and 30 mld. 50 mld of water is treated on a daily basis at the STPs with only 35 mld entering the lake from the two STPs for lake balance. 15 mld of recycled water is remaining, of which 7 mld is used to maintain the greenery around Tank Bund and Necklace Road by the HMDA. The left over 8 mld is remaining for sale.

While the non-portable water will be used for irrigation, construction, landscaping, washing or gardening purposes. The treated water from Hussainsagar would contain residual chlorine, dissolved oxygen and other elements such as suspended solids, Phosphorous and Nitrogen; will be sold from April.

The HMDA’s Buddha Purnima Project wing with three filling stations in place, will sell 8 million litres of non-portable recycled water daily. Officials stated that the water can be used in construction areas and the buyers will have to provide their own tankers at the filling station with the charge fixed as per the current borewell tanker charges.

A senior official from BPP said that the filling stations will be operational from April and the sale of lake water will get the revenue to maintain the STPs for HMDA. In addition to tanker filling, the main pipeline towards each tanker filling station is designed to supply 450 cubic metres per hour to supply according to the demands.
