SCR Earns RS 11,764 Crore Last FY. South Central Railway (SCR) has earned a whopping Rs 11,764 crore by way of freight and passenger transport charges, registering a growth of 23 per cent during April, 2014 to February 2015.

Hyderabad (NSS): South Central Railway (SCR) has earned a whopping Rs 11,764 crore by way of freight and passenger transport charges, registering a growth of 23 per cent during April, 2014 to February 2015. It records generation of additional revenue of Rs 2,175 crore when compared to the Rs 9,589 crore grossed during the same period last year.

In a press release issued here on Sunday, the SCR said the zone achieved impressive cumulative results, surpassing the Railway Board’s targets for freight loading and gross earnings, fetching laurels from Railway Board. Improved maintenance practices, maximising rolling stock utilisation, close monitoring of running of trains and rationalisation of operational practices had been instrumental for registering the exceptional performance, the release said.

According to the release, sustained marketing efforts have yielded good results during the reporting period as the zone was able to capture new streams of freight traffic such as imported iron ore at Krishnapatnam Port, bauxite at Kakinada Port; export cement in containers at Mellacheruvu and Yerraguntla, stone chips, quartz, rice and coal at other loading points.

Apart from regular train services, SCR also ran several special trains to clear extra rush of passengers during holidays and festive seasons. SCR carried 333 millions of passengers during the reporting period i.e., around 10 lakh passengers o¬n an average per day. The earnings from passenger transportation went up from Rs 2,418 crore to Rs 2,805 crore, registering a 16 per cent growth during the reporting period, it said.
