Hyderabad: The high-voltage campaign of the TRS and BJP carried out for the MLC elections failed to enthuse the urban voters especially in Hyderabad, which registered overall polling of just 27 per cent. Despite being a holiday (Sunday), graduate voters in the state capital preferred to stay indoors.

On the other hand, Mahbubnagar registered a voter turnout of 55 per cent which was almost double the polling percentage witnessed in Hyderabad. The dismal voter turnout in Hyderabad is all the more startling considering the BJP and TRS leaving no stone unturned to reach out to voters.

TRS deputed several key ministers, including T Harish Rao, K Tarakarama Rao, Eatala Rajender, Naini Narasimha Reddy, P Mahender Reddy and A Indrakaran Reddy among others to campaign for party candidate G Deviprasad.Despite the ongoing budget session of the state legislature, ministers took time off to participate in various meetings held in Hyderabad.

However, the lukewarm response meant the ruling party efforts went in vain.TRS’s main rival the BJP was not behind. It roped in Union Minister for Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu and Union Minister of State for Labour Bandaru Dattatreya for electioneering purpose in the state capital. This apart, the BJP had even roped in its central ministers like Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar, Union Law Minister Sadananda Gowda, and Union Minister for Commerce Nirmala Sitharaman to spin a win for its candidate in city.

State BJP leaders G Kishan Reddy, Dr K Laxman, N Indrasena Reddy to name a few campaigned extensively for party candidate N Ramchander Rao. However, their hard work also proved futile to bring the voters to the polling booths. Interestingly, in the polling held for the Khammam-Warangal-Nalgonda MLC constituency, there is a decent turnout of voters, registering 53 per cent polling.
