Warangal: The state government has initiated measures to appoint vice-chancellors for the universities where the posts are lying vacant, said the Governor ESL Narasimhan. He said persons with ‘quality and competence’ would be made vice-chancellors. The government is in process of identifying the persons and would soon appoint the vice-chancellors. “The Executive Councils would also be constituted along with the appointments of VCs ,” assured the Governor while responding to a query on the sad state of affairs prevailing at the state universities during a press conference in Hanamkonda on Wednesday.

Mahatma Gandhi University in Nalgonda, Telangana University in Nizamabad, Osmania University, BR Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) in Hyderabad, Kakatiya University in Warangal and Palamuru University in Mahbubnagar do not have permanent vice chancellors. Karimnagar based Satavahana University vice-chancellor Prof Veera Reddy’s tenure would end in April 16, 2015.

Referring to the disputes between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states on various issues, he said that the matters should be resolved in a ‘give and take’ method. It is common to have some problems when a house is divided, he added. Governor Narasimhan refused to comment on the suspension of TDP MLAs from Telangana Assembly. “Only the Speaker is authorised to speak and act on the developments that take place inside the House”.

He lauded the state government’s Water Grid and Mission Kakatiya programmes which he said would ensure drinking water and address irrigation needs in the villages. “It is the people who elect the governments and hence they should lend their part in better implementation of the welfare and developmental works’.

Interacting with the media persons during his second day visit here on Wednesday, he said it was not proper for him to comment on the developments. ‘Mission Kakatiya works are progressing well and I have inspected them personally’ he added. Similarly, the state government has introduced an effective industrial policy and has launched measures to become self-reliant in power sector. The rural roads and primary health centres would also be strengthened, the Governor said.

He said Kakatiya rulers have left a rich architectural heritage. Everyone concerned should make sincere efforts to protect them for posterity. Warangal district has got immense potential to become a world class tourist destination, Narasimhan opined. “I have a fondness towards Warangal. I worked here as ASP in Narasampet division in 1972 and I am very happy to come to the district again and see the places,” he said while sharing his experiences during his two-day tour here.

Earlier in the day, he visited Fort Warangal and offered prayers at historic Thousand Pillar temple. He inspected the on-going reconstruction works of Kalyana Mandapam at the temple. District collector Vakati Karuna, superintendent of police AK Jha, municipal commissioner Sarfaraz Ahmed, joint collector Prashanth Jeevan Patil and others were present.
