With the price of beer and liquor increased by the Telangana Government that is to come into effect in the coming days, a proposal is being considered by TS Govt to double the license fee for breweries and distilleries which would result in double the earning for the exchequer.

In undivided Andhra Pradesh, the license fee was revised seven years ago. The revenue target fixed by the TS government in its recent Budget for 2015-16 is Rs 3,916 crore for the excise department. The aim to meet the target has brought the initiatives to increase liquor prices, besides increasing licence fees for distilleries and breweries.

Currently, 16 distilleries in the state produce 1910.6 lakh proof litres of liquor for which the license fee collected by the government is Rs 1 for every proof litre to earn Rs 19.18 crore.

Six Breweries producing beer pay the government Rs 13.25 crore as license fee along with 15 distilleries producing spirit pay Rs 2.8 crore as license fee.
