Hyderabad: The Telangana Cabinet has decided to enhance ex-gratia given to kin of the police personnel killed in terrorist attacks from present Rs 25 lakh to Rs 40 lakh. Among the important decisions taken by the Cabinet are to fill 3620 vacant posts of constables in the police department and to hold state formation day on a grand scale on June 2. Though the Cabinet had a fairly big agenda, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao decided to cut short the meeting to just one and half hour in view of the death of SI Siddaiah while undergoing treatment at a city hospital in the afternoon.

According to the CMO, the Telangana government had decided to conduct state-formation day (June 2) on a grand scale. The celebrations would be a week-long affair from June 2-June 8. The government will spend Rs 20 crore on this in all districts. These festivities will be held from village level to mandal and district level for the first six days and will culminate in a grand function in the state capital on June 8.

Essay competitions will be held in educational institutions besides Rangoli contests for womenfolk in 10 districts. Also, noted personalities from mandal, district and state levels will be felicitated during this occasion. Also, KCR and his Council of Ministers ratified to give counter guarantee for HUDCO loan of Rs 10,000 crore to the Drinking Water Grid project.

Besides approving Prof Haragopal panel report on the TSPSC, the Cabinet decided to go for a big recruitment drive to fill vacancies in the Irrigation and Energy departments. The other significant decision was to waive off power bills (of last four years) to the tune of Rs 7.19 crore of the powerlooms in Sircilla in Karimnagar district. It also approved a proposal to allot 14 guntas land for an electricity sub-station at Bahudurpally. KCR has also constituted a Cabinet Sub-committee to look into the issue of financial compensation to those injured or lost properties in terrorist attacks.
