Hyderabad: If everything falls in place, pleasure seekers can soon enjoy an exhilarating cruise in the Krishna river as Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC) is planning to introduce a cruise service from Nagarjuna Sagar to Alampur in Mahabubnagar at an estimated cost of Rs 150 crore.

Adding a spiritual touch to the expedition, the voyage in inland waterways will also cover historic temples like Akka Mahadevi, Somasila and Jogulamba en route. In addition, there will be adventure sports like water skiing, parasailing and jet skiing, usually found in Goa.

Elaborating details, TSTDC chairman Pervaram Ramulu said the tourism package from Nagajunasagar to Alampur would be a unique one. Tourists will board cruise at Nagarjunasagar to reach Eagalapenta near Srisailam after travelling six hours in Krishna waters. Tourists would be provided accommodation at Eagalpenta and after overnight stay they would be taken to Alampur, while covering centuries-old Hindu temples in Nalgonda and Mahabubnagar districts.

The cruise would travel through Somasila, which is upstream of Srisailam Dam and reach Alampur. To ensure tourists have an enriching experience of this trip, TSTDC has decided to construct 3-star hotels at Eagalapenta and Alampur. The corporation will buy four big cruises (each costing Rs 70 lakh) for this ambitious project.

Ramulu said plans were also afoot to introduce adventure sports like water skiing, parasailing and jet ski at Ramappa, Laknavaram and Pakala lakes. Besides improving the existing facilities in these beautiful lakes, the tourism corporation would procure state-of-the-art vehicles to be parked at these sites which would be manned by professionals and experts to guide tourists.

If this project becomes a reality, sports lovers need not go to far-off places like Goa or even abroad to gratify their love for adventure. They could just visit the three beautiful lakes in Warangal district to enjoy adventure rides at reasonable rates, he said.

This apart, TSTDC has also decided to modernise sound and light facilities in Golconda and Warangal forts besides conserving the historic Qutub Shahi Tombs. It may be mentioned here that the Centre promised funds for restoring this historic site. The QST Complex is the largest group of funerary structures located all at one place. It houses 70 monuments that include 40 tombs, 23 mosques and five step wells.
