Bhadrachalam (Khammam): Minister for Endowments A Indrakaran Reddy on Saturday said the arrangements for the first Godavari Pushkaralu in separate Telangana were being carried out on the lines of the ‘Kumbh Mela’ at an estimated cost of Rs 500 crore.

The Minister, who reviewed and inspected the works here on Saturday, said an estimated crowd of eight crore people, from Telangana and also from neighbouring States of AP, Chhattisgarh and Odisha States were expected to take a holy dip in the River Godavari during the event, which starts from July 14. He said no less than 3,000 Sadhus from Varanasi alone were expected to attend the event that occurs once in 12 years.

The administration would provide accommodation facility to these Sadhus in Burgampadu mandal, he informed.“With monsoons to hit the State around June 10, the Pushkar works ought to be completed by June 5,” Reddy said, expressing confidence that it won’t be an issue as the 80 per cent of works have already been completed. Colouring of shrines and lighting would also be taken up by the endowments department as part of beautification of temples in the region, the Minister added.

“Besides putting in efforts to attract large number of pilgrims, the event will also be used to promote the culture and traditions of the region,” Reddy said, revealing that the State government would invite both President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the auspicious event.

Parliamentary Secretary Jalagam Venkata Rao, Aswaraopet MLA Thati Venkateswarlu, Paloncha Sub-Collector and Pushkaralu Nodal Officer Kali Charan, Endowments Joint Commissioner Raghunath, Irrigation Superintendent Engineer Sudhakar, Panchayat Raj superintendent Engineer Gangi Reddy, Bhadrachalam RDO Anjaiah, Regional Commissioner Ramesh Babu and Temple Executive Officer K Jyothy were also present.
