Nizamabad: District Vigilance and Monitoring committee expressed its concern over the illegal sand quarrying being carried out in Manjeera River. It directed the officials to take action against the overload transportation of sand and impose heavy penalties on transporters.


The Nizamabad District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee meeting was held at the Collectorate on Tuesday here under the chairmanship of Nizamabad MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha. Participating in the meeting, the members expressed anguish over the illegal sand quarrying in River Manjeera and appealed to control the overload vehicles, which were resulting in accidents.


Responding to the illegal sand quarrying, Kavita directed the officials to take action against those indulging in the illegal sand quarrying in River Manjeera. She said the private contractors were taking permits in Maharashtra and carrying out illegal quarrying near the Telangana boundaries and transporting the sand into our state.


Kavitha said that between Maharashtra and Telangana states, the boundaries were divided among Manjeera River and the dispute was still continuing. She recently met the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and requested him to resolve the issue within a few days.
