Hyderabad: Cracking a whip on the unrecognised schools, the Department of School Education, Telangana State has closed down about 100 schools in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy Districts. According to the department officials, premises of 61 schools in Hyderabad and 38 schools in Ranga Reddy were sealed and 44 in Hyderabad and 38 schools would be closed before the commencement of the academic year.


As per the data, of 1118 high schools in Hyderabad, 32 were un-recognised whereas out of 1576 upper primary and primary schools, 73 schools were found to function without recognition. Similarly in Ranga Reddy district, the department indentified 76 schools without recognition.


District Educational Officer, Hyderabad, Somi Reddy told The Hans India that all the unrecognised would be closed down in a couple of days. “Students who were studying in such schools are being shifted to nearest government schools and private recognised schools so that there academics will not be put in jeopardy”, he informed.


He said steps were being initiated to see to it that these schools do not undertake any admissions without recognition.The move by the department comes in as schools re-open after the summer vacation. Last year, Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy district collectors initiated action against the unrecognised schools.


However, it is said that with meddling by Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Ali, the issue died down. The officials directed schools to apply for recognition. Despite two deadlines, the schools failed to obtain recognition. “The school managements are running from pillar to post to apply for recognition.


First last date ended in the last week of October 2014 and with a fine it ended in April, 2015. Now, it is highly impossible to apply for recognition. We told schools to apply for academic year 2016-17,” an official of District Educational Office, Hyderabad said.
