Hyderabad: Expressing concerns over irregularities in Public Distribution System (PDS), Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Sunday directed officials to take stringent action, even filing criminal cases, against those involved in such acts. He directed the officials to take the help of the police in tracking down the culprits. He also asked the politicians not to get in the way taking action against the erring employees.

In his day-long meeting with District Collectors, Superintendents of Police and top officials of different departments held here on Sunday, Rao expressed dismay over the reports that middlemen were cornering the benefits. Ration rice was being recycled by rice millers. It should not be tolerated, he said. Rao told officials to visit other states to study methods being adopted there and come up with recommendations to ensure foolproof system of public distribution.

Rao also reviewed preparations for upcoming Godavari Pushkaaralu in Telangana state. He directed Collector and SPs of five districts-Adilabad, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Warangal and Khammam - to monitor pre parations personally. Government officials and police from other districts should be deputed in five districts to cope with heavy rush of pilgrims expected for Pushkarams. All measures should be taken, so that pilgrims visiting various places would not put to any inconvenience.

Temporary toilets, change rooms, medical and parking facilities, rescue teams, etc. should be made available near Pushkar Ghaats, Rao stressed. He also directed district administration that the officials should take forward the government priorities pertaining to 2-bedroom housing scheme, higher education for orphans and land acquisition method.
