Online services with special software could curb malpractices

Hyderabad: In a move by the Telangana State government that could minimise corruption and bring in transparency in the State Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) functioning, the government has decided to launch educational services of BIE online.

About 16 services like affiliation of the colleges, permission for setting up new colleges, addition of sections, name change of a college or society, migration certificates, equivalency certificates and duplicate marks memo will go online. This new system will be launched by Telangana State Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Kadiyam Srihari in couple of days.

Currently, only All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) accepts online applications for setting up new colleges and affiliations. The Telangana State BIE will be the first Board to go online in the country. With the online system students and college managements can go the nearest Mee Seeva or Eseva online centres to avail the services of the Board.

“Every day hundreds of students and parents do rounds for certificates. Now, a student or college management in Adilabad or in Khamma can get the services online and need not come to the Board,” an official said. Apart from facilitating students for online access to the services, the Board officials were of the view that new system would also cut down the corruption levels.

The managements of the educational institution now cannot escape from scrutiny of their deficiencies. “All these days if there were deficiencies in the applications, the colleges used to manage the Board officials and got permissions. Now, the managements have to fulfil all requirements, failing which their applications will be rejected by the software,” an official stated.

The Telaganana BIE Employees Association welcomed the changes in the system. “Long wait for certificates will come to an end,” said Ganta Jagan Mohan Reddy, President, BIE Employees Association. Government Junior Lecturers Association, President, P Madhusudhan Reddy, said it was a good move by the Board that would bring credibility and transparency in the system.
