Demand appointment of regular vice-chancellors and implementation of recommendations of 10th PRC

Hyderabad: Teaching and non-teaching staff in all universities in Telangana State staged a protest on campuses on Friday, demanding that the government address their grievances. The call for protest was given by the Telangana State Federation of Universities Teachers’ Association and Telangana State Universities non-teaching employees Association.


While Osmania University teachers took out a mass rally from the University Arts and Social Sciences Colleges to Administrative block, demanding appointment of regular vice-chancellors to the universities, non-teaching staff of the university organised “vanta vaarpu” (cooking and eating on roads) on the campus demanding implementation of recommendations of 10th Pay Revision Commission and health cards.

The teachers, who took out a rally, raised slogans and demanded that the government constitute executive councils in all universities and enhance the age of superannuation to 65 years, start recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff and health cards for all employees.


On the other hand, about 300 non-teaching staff protested in a different way by organisingVanta Vaarpu. The staff who gathered in large number sang Telangana songs and playedBathukamma (a floral festival celebrated by women in Telangana) on the university roads. They demanded the government to immediately implement 10th PRC, appoint vice-chancellors and issue health cards on the lines of government employees.

“The protests were held in all the state-run universities. We will go on mass hunger strike on July 24. A review meeting will be held on July 25 and we will chalk out further plan of action,” said Prof. Battu Satyanarayana, president of the Telangana State Federation of Universities Teachers’ Association.
