Hyderabad: All Opposition parties are now trying to woo Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) chairman M Kodandaram. Kodandaram, who played a key role in intensifying the Telangana movement under the banner of JAC involving all political parties, had distanced himself from taking part in any political activity after the bifurcation of the state.

Sources said leaders of the Congress, TTDP and TBJP are in touch with Kodandaram ever since he retired from teaching profession recently. It is said that they were making all-out efforts to convince the JAC leader to join their party and play a major role in active politics. The political parties are also offering key posts to the JAC leader, sources say.

Sources said the parties are of the view that the popularity of Kodandaram will be a great asset for them as they are struggling hard to overshadow the mass image of TRS president and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. They say Kodandaram has big following in Telangana and is highly respected for the important role he had played during the separate state agitation.

His joining will definitely help any political party in the state,” a senior leader from the Congress told The Hans India. According to Congress sources, AICC general secretary in charge of party affairs Digvijay Singh is likely to talk to Kodandaram when he visits Hyderabad during the third week of October.

It may be mentioned here that AICC president Sonia Gandhi met Kodandaram before 2014 elections and invited him to join the Congress but he declined. On Tuesday, Telangana TDP president L Ramana called on Kodandaram and felicitated the Telangana leader on behalf of his party and urged him to extend his services for the development of the state. The BJP also made attempts to convince Kodandaram.
