Hyderabad: Rumours are rife that former MP G Vivek may quit Congress and join the TRS. According to sources, the senior Congress leader is in communication with top leaders of ruling TRS. It is being said that he might be fielded from Warangal SC Lok Sabha constituency.

Sources say that he would opt for TRS ticket since the prospects of winning the seat are high. Even if Congress decides to field him from Warangal, the chances of winning are slim, his followers claim. The speculation gained ground after Chief Minister inaugurated the statue of Former Union Minister G Venkataswamy, father of Vivek, on the Tank Bund this month.

It is also being said that the AICC general secretary, Digvijay Singh, who is serious about the issue going out of hand, has made a decision to visit Warangal on October 19 to assess the situation first hand. Digvijay, who had earlier skipped the visit, was making all-out effort to regain the lost ground.

With the stakes in the elections going up, Vivek’s choice of joining TRS is likely to upset the Congress high command. If the former Peddapally MP joins TRS, the Congress will have very few choices from among the renowned faces. One would be former Deputy Chief Minister Damodara Rajanarasimha and former MP Siricilla Rajaiah.

The Warangal constituency has voters who represent Madiga community, but Rajaiah who is also Madiga, has faced several allegations in the past. While on the other hand, Vivek represents Mala community, which could prove to be challenge for him.

However, when asked, Vivek refuted the rumours and told The Hans India that he would continue with Congress. He explained that the Chief Minister was an admirer of his father and enjoyed good rapport. He also denied contesting from Warangal.
