Mahbubnagar: Villagers of Velgomula in Midjil mandal have found a Shiva Linga along with other stone sculpted artefacts from a well on the outskirts of the village.

Shiva Linga and Bhairava stone sculptures

According to Polepally Pentaiah Goud, a resident of Velugomula village, the 50-year-old abandoned well is situated on the lands belonged to Sudarshan Reddy, Madhusudan Reddy and Ravinder Reddy. When the well was dug to overcome water scarcity, the Shiva Linga and other stone sculptures were found.

Some villagers recalled that they were told of the existence of a temple in the village. “But we never believed it. With the Shiva linga and other stone sculpted of Kala Bhairava and Nagula being found in this abandoned well, we feel there might be more such sculptures,” felt Pentiah Goud.

The villagers are now planning to construct a Shiva temple by installing the Shiva Linga in it. At present the Shiva Linga and other stones sculpted are kept at the Anjayneya swamy temple in the village.
