Khammam: District Superintendent of Police Shahnawaz Qasim warned those who were indulging in the preparation of illicit liquor in the district and said that that they would be tried under the Preventive Detention Act.

Addressing a review meeting with officials of the Police and Excise Departments at the SP’s camp office in the district on Monday, the Superintendent of Police said, “There is information that some people are indulging in the smuggling of black jaggery from other districts into Khammam.

Such people, if nabbed, would be tried under the PD Act.” Qasim directed the officials to prevent the preparation and sale of illicit liquor in the district strictly. If needed additional forces should be deployed and for nabbing those who were indulging in the preparation and sale of illicit liquor, he added.

He said, “By collecting information from various sources about the smuggling of black jaggery and other items used for the preparation of illicit liquor, vehicles should be inspected at the borders of the district vigorously.”

Keep an eye on the persons on whom bind-over cases were booked and check whether they were indulging again in the preparation and selling of illicit liquor or not, said the SP.
