Nizamabad: On the occasion of Pulse Polio on Sunday, the District Medical and Health Department, the District Immunization Department and the Rotary Club jointly conducted a rally in the town on Saturday to create awareness among the people on the pulse polio vaccination program. The pulse polio rally began at the Government hospital and passed through the Nehru Park, DIO office in the town.

District Medical and Health Officer Dr. Venkat flagged off the rally and said that the Indian government was conducting the ‘Pulse Polio Program’ to permanently eradicate the dreaded disease ‘polio’ from our country. He said that Indian government has taken steps and was aware that the polio disease was completely eradicated in India, but it was conducting this program as a precautionary step to prevent this communicable disease spreading from the neighboring countries.

Dr. Venkat said on Sunday, the pulse polio drops would be administered to nearly 3,36,469 children in the Nizamabad district and 7,480 employees from various departments employees would take part in the programme. He said that in Nizamabad district several high risk centers were identified and arrangements were made to administer the polio drops at railway stations, TSRTC bus stands, anganwadi centers, primary health centers and government hospitals.

He said that on Monday and Tuesday, the health workers should give the polio drops to children at door steps of the each and every house. DMHO said that 89% of the children were given pulse polio drops last year in Nizamabad district and this year, they fixed higher targets.

District Immunization Officer Chandrashekar Reddy, Rotary Club President Srinivas Rao, Field Publicity Officers Balaiah and Javeed Hafeez, Dr. Dinesh, officials of various department and volunteers participated in the rally.
