The state president of the sangam, Shoban Naik made the demand while addressing the \'Rocha Banda\' programme held here on Sunday.

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Committee of Girijana Sangam demanded that the State government allocate Rs 13,378.5 crore for the welfare of the tribal people based on their population during 2016-17 financial year. The state president of the sangam, Shoban Naik made the demand while addressing the 'Rocha Banda' programme held here on Sunday.

Prof Islawat Naik of English and Foreign Languages University said that economic foundation is the basic prerequisite for the development of the backward tribal populace in the state. He pointed out that though quite a few governments have changed, there was no change in the lives of tribal people in the state. He criticized the state government for not meeting its electoral promises on the tribal development and diverting the Tribal Sub-plan funds to other projects.

Despite several schemes are being implemented under Integrated Tribal Development Authority (ITDA) and other apparatus of the government, the tribal population is still suffering from the problems such as shortage of drinking water, lack of road transport, electricity, absence of development of water resources and agriculture, education, medical services in the tribal areas, said Naik.

The meeting also demanded that the State government constitute a committee with tribal representatives on budgetary allocation, tribal welfare, besides giving 10 per cent reservation, declaring tribal hamlets as revenue villages and the implementation of the SC, ST Sub-Plan.
