Karimnagar: Undaunted by the scorching sun, scores of devotees on Friday waited for hours in long serpentine queues to have the darshan of tribal deities at the biennial Sammakka Saralamma Jatara organised at different places in the district.

The fair began with the arrival of Saralamma to the altar on Wednesday and Sammakka was brought on Thursday. The tribal fair was organised in 83 places across the district while 41 places were identified as major pilgrimage centres.

Devotees offered prayers and made offerings at the Jataras in Godavarikhani, Goliwada, Rekurthi, Veenavanka, Huzurabad, Kannur, Shankarapatnam, Kamalapur and other places.

The Jatara organisers dug borewells to supply water to the devotees to have bath and water was released from Yellampalli irrigation project to downstream so that there will be water at Goliwada and Godavarikhani Jatara sites. The Jatara would be concluded with the return of goddesses into forest on Saturday.
