Tendu leaf collectors demand wage hike

Demanding a hike in the wages, the tendu leaf collectors staged a protest demonstration at Bayyaram in Khammam district on Wednesday. The leaf collectors, mostly the Adivasis, led by the All India Kisan Mazdoor Sabha (AIKMS) raised slogans against the government demanding enhancement of leaf collection rates.
Khammam: Demanding a hike in the wages, the tendu leaf collectors staged a protest demonstration at Bayyaram in Khammam district on Wednesday. The leaf collectors, mostly the Adivasis, led by the All India Kisan Mazdoor Sabha (AIKMS) raised slogans against the government demanding enhancement of leaf collection rates.
The leaders led by Bayyaram ZPTC member G Ilaiah and AIKMS Bayyaram mandal secretary Narasimha submitted a memorandum to the revenue officials to bring their demands to the notice of the government. The protestors also demanded release of pending bonus. It was learnt that the government had not paid bonus to tendu pluckers for the last four years.
