Caste equations come to fore in mayor race
The district unit of All Brahmins Officials and Professionals Association (ABOPA) is batting for the newly elected TRS corporator, Vaddiraju Ganesh for Warangal mayor post. He won from 27th division of Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation with a huge majority and is in the race for the coveted mayor post.

Since he belongs to Brahmin community, the ABOPA took up his cause and has appealed Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to consider his name for the mayor post. The honorary president of ABOPA, Dr Vodithala Vishwanatha Rao, its president Mothukur Manohar Rao, general secretary Cholleti Rama Krishna said Ganesh actively involved in Telangana movement and staged dharna at Janthar Manthar in New Delhi with advocates as president of Bar Association.
The Vaddiraju family is committed to the welfare of poor and upliftment of downtrodden and extending helping to the needy. They have been involved in societal developmental activities for the last five decades generously donating land for schools, temples and crematoriums.
‘Ganesh is an advocate, social worker and above all a committed Telangana activist. He is a suitable candidate for mayor position,’ they said while speaking The Hans India here on Friday. ‘We appeal CM KCR to give Brahmin community their due share in the Telangana government’s efforts to build a golden Telangana by choosing Ganesh for mayor post,’ they added.
It was said that a senior TRS leader V Lakshmikantha Rao, who is said to be a close associate of KCR, is also supporting the candidature of Ganesh for the mayor seat. Meanwhile, those seeking the mayor post are now bringing up the caste equations into the fore as the name of another TRS corporator Nannapuneni Narender is among the aspirants for the mayor seat.
It is being argued that Narender belongs to Munnuru Kapu community and there are two legislators, namely D Vinay Bhasker, who is Warangal (West), MLA and MLC Konda Muralidhar Rao have been representing the community here. Hence the mayor seat should be allocated to other community in order to balance the caste equation.
Nonetheless, the CM is said to be inclined towards Narender as mayor of Warangal and reportedly made a promise in that connection. But the leaders of Brahmin community coming up with a strong case in favour of Ganesh everyone here in anxiously waiting how the CM would address the issue.
