Karimnagar: Sixteen tribal villages in Manthani division are literally cut off from the rest of the world even in the cyber era due to lack of bridge connectivity. People of the tribal villages have to cross Peddampet, Neelampalli, Pankena and Sarvaipet streams to reach the mandal headquarters Mahadevpur or the divisional headquarters Manthani for their daily necessaries. Crossing the streams in country boats and on bullock carts is highly risky.

Getting the bridge connectivity to their villages is the long cherished dream of the tribals. Lack of bridge connectivity has prevented the tribals from joining the mainstream. They have remained backward on all fronts even 69 years after Independence. Few teachers come forward to work in government schools in the villages.

The schools do not function properly in the rainy season depriving children of education. There is only one Primary Health Centre at Ambatpalli covering all the tribal villages. Former Assembly speaker D Sripada Rao who represented Manthani constituency, got ring roads laid connecting some of the tribal villages. There is no RTC bus facility to these villages.

Most of these villages do not have proper roads. All the villages are virtually inaccessible in the rainy season as the streams are in floods. They also face submersion threat during Godavari floods every year. The tribal people have to fend themselves without any assistance from the district administration during the four months.

The ailing people and pregnant women of these villages do not get any medical aid. The mother and infant mortality rate in these villages is quite high. In the absence of bridge connectivity, ration, pension and other benefits are being cornered by the middlemen in the name of tribal beneficiaries at the mandal headquarters itself.

After decades of isolation, the 16 tribal villages are set to join the mainstream as construction of bridges was taken up on Peddampet and Pankena streams. Foundation stones were also laid for the bridges across Neelampalli and Sarvaipet streams.

Speaking to The Hans India, Mallam, a tribal, narrated their woes due to lack of bridge connectivity. “It is highly difficult to shift a patient to hospital in medical emergencies. Many people, including pregnant women, lost their lives on their way to hospital. The construction of bridges across the four streams will connect our villages with the outside world. The bridges will help usher in development in our villages by extending a lifeline,” he said.

Another tribal Naik said: “Life is miserable in our villages during the rainy season. The construction of bridges on the streams will ensure adequate supply of essential commodities and provision of timely medical aid to us, which are bare essential for our survival.
