Hyderabad: A gang of cyber crooks, including a man from Srikakulam, duped various software companies across the country including at Hyderabad, to a tune of Rs 53 lakh by creating a fake website. The fake websites were projected as if they were meant for offering skill development programmes in affiliation with the Union government.

According to City Cyber Crime police they had received complaints from two companies belonging to Telangana State stating that some unknown persons had created fake website www.sdmservices.com and sent emails to several software companies that they were affiliated to the Government of India in implementing the Skill Development Programme as part of “Make in India” campaign.

The mailers had also asked the interested organisations to deposit 1 percent of the total cost of the tender and can avail the money after allocation of the tender. Accordingly, the companies had deposited huge amounts in the bank accounts provided by the mailers.

“On Monday, the victims, belonging to two software companies from Hyderabad lodged a complaint stating that they had separately deposited money in the accounts provided to them in the email,” said a cyber crime officer. Preliminary investigation by the police revealed that five companies were duped by the crooks to a tune of Rs 53 lakh.
