Hyderabad: Demanding that Gadwal be made as a separate district, Gadwal Zilla Sadhana Samiti (GZSS) staged a massive rally at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park here on Tuesday.

Hundreds of people under the aegis of GZSS came to the city on Tuesday to press the demand for the new district. Congress MLA and former Minister D K Aruna, who is spearheading the movement for the new district, recalled the assurance given by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao who was in favour more districts in the State for better administrative convenience.

Addressing the gathering, Aruna said with the available infrastructure, historical and political importance, formation of Gadwal district would be helpful. Gadwal is centrally located for at least four Assembly constituencies and well-connected with rail and road. Besides this, the district is located on the banks of a river with plenty of water availability, according to Aruna.

She further said that due to the long distance from the district headquarters, people from Alampur, Gadwal, Makthal and Narayanpet constituencies were going to Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh and Raichur in Karnataka to meet their day-to-day health and educational needs. GZSS convenor K Anjaneyulu, co- convenor S Nagaraju and many others participated in the protest.
