Warangal: The speakers at ‘Rythu Chaitanya Sadassu’, held at Enumamula agriculture market yard in Warangal on Thursday, have called upon the farming community to emerge as a decisive force to get their rights protected.
The meeting was organised by Telangana Karmika Rythu Rajyam Party (TKRRP) founded some time back by a senior political activist, Martha Rajaiah with an objective to fight for the rights of the farmers and labourers.
Telangana JAC chairman Prof Kodandaram, retired High Court judge B Chandra Kumar, retired professor of Kakatiya University K Venkata Narayana, the TKRRP founder president, Martha Rajaiah and others addressed the meeting.
Addressing the gathering, Prof Kodandaram asked the farmers to organise themselves as pressure groups without any political affiliations so that their needs and demands could be presented before the government in an effective manner.
‘Warangal played a key role in separate Telangana movement and in similar manner the district is a suitable place for the farming community to rise as a force. The farmers in the district should increase their awareness levels and act as a guiding force for farmers across the State’. If the farmers were not united and organised the governments would not listen to them, he explained.
The TJAC leader expressed concern over delay in identifying mandals affected by drought and lack of drought relief measures. He demanded the government to declare Warangal district as drought-hit and launch immediate measures to provide relief to farmers and villagers affected by drought.
The retired judge, Chandra Kumar also expressed concern over delay in identifying drought-affected mandals in the State and submitting a report to the Centre regarding the same. Due to the State’s negligence, it failed to receive central funds to tackle the situation, he alleged.
He stressed on the need for farmers to grow financially which, he said in turn could strengthen the nations’ economy. While expressing dismay over corporate and affluent sections occupying seats in assembly and parliament, he suggested that the farmers should be given representation in the legislative houses.
