The university would soon form a full-fledged committee comprising professors, principals of various colleges and deans to decide as to what all the activities to be organised as part of the celebrations.

Osmania University would turn 100 years in 2018. The university is named after its founder, Nawab Osman Ali Khan, the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad who established the university in 1918. It is the third oldest university in Southern India and a first to have Urdu as a medium of instruction.

To mark the celebrations, the varsity has commenced the process of constructing a new administrative building which would replace the existing 55 year-old one. The new building would be named as centenary administrative building. Accordingly, the government has sanctioned Rs 10 crore towards the construction of the new building.

The university has also created an email address [email protected] where ex-students, retired professors, teaching and non-teaching staff across the world can enroll themselves for the celebrations.

Speaking to The Hans India, University Registrar Prof E Suresh Kumar said the celebrations would be held in a befitting manner and government has extended all its support to the university. "We are planning to invite President or Prime Minister for the centenary celebrations,” he said.

The university would conduct national seminars and workshops in the departments concerned as part of the celebrations, a senior official said.He further said the university would organise a get-together of previous batches starting from 1960.
