Hyderabad: Alleging complacency on the part of the RTC management and transport department officials in curbing the illegal transport services by private operators who are causing huge losses to the State-owned RTC, the workers union leaders of the Corporation have decided to take up their own "special drive" on May 28 and 29.

RTC workers union leaders would take up the special drive at Choutuppal toll plaza on May 28 and at Shadnagar toll plaza on May 29 and check the documents of the private bus operators. The union leaders said that the RTC was suffering losses to the tune of about Rs 1,000 crore every year due to illegal transport services by private operators.

TSRTC Employees Union General Secretary K Raji Reddy said that the government needed to take action against the illegal transport services by private bus operators to bring the corporation into profits, adding that there were about 2,500 private buses operating inter-State and long distance services from Hyderabad.

The Union leader expressed displeasure that though the private operators were involved in illegal operations, neither the government nor the transport commissioner were taking any steps. “To save our Corporation and to bring it into profits, we have decided to take up a special drive against the illegal operations on these two days,” said Raji Reddy.

The Union leaders would meet the transport commissioner on June 3 and present a memorandum, urging him to take action. If there was no response from either the government or the transport commissioner, the Union leaders would stop the private buses at LB Nagar cross roads and Aaramghar cross roads on June 9.
