Hyderabad: The holy month of Ramzan has begun in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Monday after the Central Ruiyat-e-Hilal Committee confirmed sighting of the crescent moon.

The Central Ruiyat-e-Hilal Committee announced that the holy month of Ramzan has begun and the first Roza or fasting will be observed on Tuesday. Majlis-e-Ulema-e-Deccan president Syed Mohammed Qubul Pasha Quadri Shuttari gave the official declaration after the religious Ulema met at Hussaini building, Moazzam Jahi market.

Due to cloudy weather, the crescent moon could not be sighted in Hyderabad. However, the Committee got reports of crescent sighting from other parts of the State. In Mecca masjid, nearly 10,000 Muslims participated in the Taraveeh prayers. Three chapters of Holy Quran will be recited every day.

Similarly, management committees of different mosques have been made arrangements for the conduct of Taraveeh prayers. Arrangements have also been made at several places for Simaat-e-Quran, the congregations where Holy Quran is recited.
