Last year the government became successful in increasing the strength of government colleges and in getting good results by supplying free books to the students.

In sequel, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and the cabinet ministers promised the students of government colleges several times that the government would introduce mid-day meals in the State educational institutions to support poor rural students. The government’s mid-day meal announcement got immediate response as admissions in about 30 government colleges in the district have increased considerably.

Even though the admission process in government colleges has started from June 1, the government has not issued any orders about the implementation of mid-day meals till date.

On the other hand, the delay in taking a decision about mid-day meal was creating troubles to the lecturers, who assured the students to provide mid-day meal besides free education and free books during the admission.The college staff is expecting mid-day meals in colleges once the ongoing admissions for the first year close by August.

The parents of senior intermediate students of government colleges are requesting the government to provide mid-day meals to their children immediately in order to attract more students to government colleges.

Regional Inspection Officer Intermediate Education, N Prakashbabu said the government is committed to implement the mid-day meals in government colleges from this academic year without fail. Serious discussions are going on at high level to implement the prestigious programme in an effective way. He added that as per the information he got the programme may start in July first week.
