Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao on Thursday asked the officials to prepare an action plan for the completion of Kaleshwaram project within 18 months. The minister took up an exhaustive review of the Kaleshwaram project at the irrigation department headquarters ‘Jala Soudha’ on Thursday. He asked the officials to identify places within three days for the construction of three reservoirs and three barrages.

He asked Engineer-in-Chief C Muralidhar Rao and advisor for Telangana Lift Irrigation Projects K Penta Reddy to visit the project site on Saturday. Officials have been asked to finalise contract agreements within the next one week with a directive to contractors to start the works within
15 days.

Stating that the Chief Minister was firm on constructing Kaleshwaram project on top priority, Harish Rao asked officials to match up to the expectations of the Chief Minister. He called up the Karimnagar district collector and enquired about the progress achieved on land acquisition and also wanted him to speed up the entire process. He suggested the collector to authorise the Manthani RDO to take up land acquisition.

The minister Rao wanted officials to have their camps at Medigadda, Sundilla and Annaram barrages and to start work within 15 days. He wanted them to start works pertaining to Kaleshwaram barrage and pump house, immediately. The civil, mechanical and electrical works should also be taken up simultaneously; he said and directed the officials to identify land for the pump house.

The minister said that since the Chief Ministers of Telangana and Maharashtra are meeting in Mumbai on July 15, the officials should continuously review the project works. He directed Engineer-in-Chief C Muralidhar Rao to supervise all the related works.
