Karimnagar: In a bid to make it to the Smart Cities Mission Round-III selection if not the ongoing Round-II, city’s elected representatives and bureaucrats rushed to Indore (Madhya Pradesh) to knock the door of its Collector Parikipandla Narahari, under whose unique vision and guidance that city is all set to become one of the best smart cities in the country, to seek his assistance in preparing an infallible proposal.

It may be noted here that Narahari, who belongs to Karimnagar, had shot into nationwide limelight through his brainchild scheme ‘Ladli Laxmi Yojana’ and other programmes.

When the Union Ministry of Urban Development included Karimnagar city replacing Hyderabad in the elite list of Smart Cities Mission, there was barely a fortnight to go for the submission of proposal for the Round-II contest i.e. June 30.

Since then the local elected representatives and the district administration have been pursuing the matter with the Centre to give some leeway in terms of time to submit the city’s proposal, but in vain.

Against this backdrop, the local MP B Vinod Kumar discussed with Narahari about the modality of the proposal when the latter was on a home visit last month. Narahari, who expressed his willingness to assist in the preparation of the proposal, invited the MP and municipal authorities to Indore to get an idea of the model they have been implementing.

Following this, a delegation consisting of MLA Gangula Karunakar, Mayor Sardar Ravinder Singh, Deputy Mayor Guggillapu Ramesh and Executive Engineer Mohan Kumar have landed in Indore on Friday for a two-day study tour. The team will join the MP Vinod Kumar, who is already there.

Speaking to The Hans India from Indore on Friday, Municipal Commissioner Krishna Bhaskar said: “We are here to study and understand the concept of the proposal.”

Especially, the Pan-City initiative of the Indore’s proposal is one of the best as it draws inspiration from smart solutions that incorporate the use of technology, information and data to improve services. This apart, the Smart City campaign of the city has a tremendous public outreach, covering around five lakh denizens, he said.

In a WhatsApp message, the Indore Collector Narahari said: “I am more than happy to guide my native place-Karimnagar–to become one of the best smart cities.”
