Warangal: A unique advanced allergy treatment with ‘Omalizumab,’ a humanised antibody designed to reduce sensitivity to inhaled or ingested allergens in the control of moderate to severe allergies is introduced in Warangal.

Original research molecule, Omalizumab helps patients to prevent further emergency allergy attacks by almost 60 per cent, says Dr Vyakarnam Nageshwar of Aswini Hospital based in Hanamkonda. He claimed that the injection was administered to a patient for the first time in Warangal by him.

He stated that an estimated 30 per cent of Indian population suffers from various kinds of allergic diseases like asthma, rhinitis, sinusitis, skin rashes or food allergies. Though many treatments were there for allergies certain kind of allergies does not subside for routine allergic treatment, he said.

“For such cases a novel research-approved drug called Omalizumab works better than any other currently available therapy. The therapy with Omalizumab injection has been available in all developed nations for the past 10 years, but is now becoming available in India as well,” Dr Nageshwar said.

A 50-year-old female patient, Uma Devi, a chronic asthma patient who is on different kinds of treatments, suffering repeated attacks and emergency admissions for the past 10 years, is administered with this injection at Aswini Hospital.

“After being evaluated by allergy expert team, she is selected for the unique treatment with Omalizumab and she responded well to the treatment. The injection has been procured from USA to Warangal,” Dr Nageshwar said.

The allergy expert further said that the American-manufactured rare injection was available upon specialist prescription.

“It is a boon for all Central government employees and ESI employee scheme beneficiaries as they could avail this treatment to all uncontrolled allergy patients absolutely free,” he said.

Dr Nageshwar is the president of Allergy and Asthma Network of India and is founder president of Integrated Allergy Standards of India. He has been working extensively on allergy-related diseases and cure.
