MALLANNASAGAR HC VERDICT

Thoguta (Medak): The farmers affected by the Mallannasagar imbroglio for the past few months are finally breathing a sigh of relief (though a temporary one) after the Wednesday’s High Court order quashing GO 123.

Interestingly, even 24 hours after the court order, on Thursday, the Village Revenue Officer and Deputy Tehsildar of Thoguta mandal distributed cheques to cover farmers who have already completed registration of their lands to the extent of 1,000 acres in Etigadda Kishtapur.

According to a local youth, about Rs 60 crore was paid to the farmers in Etigadda Kishtapur till now. However, there was not a single case where compensation was paid to farmers alienating assigned lands. In fact, no decision has been made in that regard.

Farmers have not given consent to alienate their lands to an extent of 400 acres, according to the villagers. While people of Vemulghat village are happy over the High Court verdict, they are worried over reports that the government may go in for appeal. Even children of this village expressed similar views.

Speaking to The Hans India, two school-going children from Etigadda Kishtapur said while court order was good but Harish Rao wants to go to Supreme Court. “If the project itself is cancelled, we’ll be full-happy.”
