Warangal: A senior politician and Warangal Zilla Parishad former chairman A Baswa Reddy (69) passed away on Thursday morning at his residence at Nakkalagutta in Hanamkonda. He suffered from cancer one-and-half year ago and underwent treatment for a long time. Since then he was ill and away from
active politics.

He was a liquor contractor before entering into politics by joining Telugu Desam Party in 1991. During 1996, he survived an attempt on his life by naxals, who fired at him at his old residence in Warangal for not heeding their warning, wherein they cautioned the liquor contractors from contesting in the elections.

He contested for Warangal MP seat in 1096 and for Jangaon assembly in 2004 and lost in both elections. Baswa Reddy has served as Zilla Parishad chairman during 2001-05. He served as president of TDP district unit during 2012-14 and was later made State unit vice president. In February, 2016 he along with Palakurthy MLA E Dayakar Rao joined the TRS.

Deputy Chief Minister K Srihari, MLAs D Vinay Bhaskar, A Ramesh, T Rajaiah, B Shanker Naik , E Dayakar Rao and Ch Dharma Reddy, GWMC Mayor N Narender, TRS district president T Ravinder Rao have visited Baswa Reddy’s residence and offered homage.

DCC Bank chairman J Raghava Reddy, TDP leader G Satyanarayana Rao, Congress leaders N Rajender Reddy, E Swarna, EV Srinivasa Rao, CPI leader T Srinivasa Rao, CPM leader S Vasudeva Reddy, BJP leaders M Dharma Rao and M Satyanarayana Reddy, Buddhist Society of India leader B Kattaiah and several others also paid homage to Baswa Reddy.

The TDP state leaders L Ramana and A Revanth Reddy, TPCC former president Ponnala Lakshmaiah have expressed their deep condolences to the family members of Baswa Reddy. His last rites were performed at the funeral ground at Padmakshi temple.
Baswa Reddy is survived by wife Manohara and daughter Dr Anitha Reddy.
