Nizamabad: District Collector Dr Yogitha Rana directed the officials concerned to submit report pertaining to the implementation of the Marpu Aarogyalakshmi scheme meant for the pregnant women by September 30.

Participating in the valedictory function of the National Nutrition Week at the new Ambedkar Bhawan in the town on Wednesday, she expressed surprise as to how 36 women died due to anemia although the government took several steps to distribute iron folic acid tablets and provided nutritious food to them in order to ensure normal and smooth deliveries. The District Collector said that the staff of the anganwadi centres provided wrong statistical figures regarding the implementation of the Arogyalakshmi scheme in the district.

She said according to the survey conducted by the World Health Organisation, it was found that 68 per cent of the pregnant women, infants, lactating mothers were provided nutritious food in Nizamabad district. If the anganwadi centres fail to provide nutritious food to the pregnant women, lactating mothers and infants, stringent action would be initiated against the staff,
she warned.

Collector Rana said that medical awareness camps should be organised at anganwadi centres in the morning and gram sabhas in the evening every day to enlighten pregnant women about the type of food and precautions that they should take. She told the officials concerned to organise a two-day health camp every month and submit reports to her.

Joint Collector A Ravinder Reddy, ICDS project director Chandramohan Reddy, Distrct Medical and Health Officer Dr Venkat, ICDS and assistant porejct director Sharada were present.
