The expansion of the SIT team had become necessary since the diary found at Nayeem’s house had telephone numbers of some police officers and politicians from the ruling party and Opposition parties.
DGP Anurag Sharma also appointed Additional Director General (Law & Order) Anjani Kumar to monitor the ongoing probe and take the case to a logical conclusion.

A high-level meeting was held in DGP office on Tuesday by additional DG Anjani Kumar, who took charge as monitoring officer of the case. The officials who attended the meeting include IG Y Nagi Reddy, Mahbubnagar SP Rema Rajeshwari and others.

In the aftermath of the encounter of gangster Mohammed Nayeemuddin alias Nayeem by police in Shadnagar, around 80 associates of the gangster were arrested across the State in 72 cases so far. Several complaints have been received by the SIT through its helpline number and also at the police stations. Following the complaints and confessions of the arrested persons, police managed to recover huge quantity of incriminating material that opened doors for further investigation.

So far, the arrested persons were all either associates or relatives of the gangster, who were with him during the criminal and inhuman activities, and some of them were eye-witnesses, according to the police.

Speaking to ‘The Hans India’, Additional DG Anjani Kumar maintained “suspense” on the probable arrests, stating, “It is too early to make a comment. It takes time to study the case and comment on the developments.”
