Hyderabad: The former dean of Osmania University and All India Save Education Committee (AISEC) president Prof P L Vishweshwar Rao opined that there were many discrepancies in the New Education Policy-2016, and the policy was not concerned about the problems faced by the students.

“The new policy basically lacks practicality and the essence of knowledge to be imparted to the students of this era. Mythology is prioritised in the History textbooks and a distorted image of India’s past is presented. English and the local language should be given equal importance,” the Prof added.

Unscientific practices and various shades of superstitions were included which might affect child’s mind. Education should be kept free of religious influences, he felt.

“This policy has to be scrapped and the new policy should be drafted by the new committee comprising of the educationists and eminent academicians unlike the former committee,” said the Committee Secretary Govindarajulu.

They demanded the NDA government to withdraw the proposal of closing down government schools. “The government should think about the new ideas to enhance the infrastructure in the schools rather than closing them,” he suggested.
