Hyderabad: The proposed secretariat building would resemble a fort and would reflect Telangana culture and heritage that prevailed during the Kakatiya Dynasty.

This was explained to the Cabinet members by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao during the Cabinet meeting. Making it clear that the demolition of the secretariat building would begin soon, the Chief Minister said the new dome shaped structures would demonstrate Telangana culture in every block.

KCR said the preliminary structural designs have been prepared by the Roads and Buildings department in strict accordance with vaastu and as per numerology. According to sources, the Chief Minister told the Cabinet that each block would have six floors.

The main block – CMO – would be an elevated one resembling a fort like structure. This block would be the centre of administration in the secretariat. Though it would be a fort like structure, the new secretariat complex will have state of the art facilities, including video conferencing and would be linked with every mandal headquarters.

Huge conference halls will be built to hold meetings with District Collectors and other domestic and international delegates who visit the state.

KCR told the Cabinet that great emphasis would be laid on greenery and to provide adequate parking space. Of the 22 acres of land that would be available, concrete structures would come up only in about 4 acres and the remaining area would be used for landscaping and parking.

Another highlight would be that the ministers’ chambers and the offices of the secretaries and head of the departments (HoDs) of each department would be located in the same block to ensure smooth administration and fast implementation of the decisions taken by the government. At present, most of the HOD offices are located outside the secretariat.

With demolition of the existing secretariat building having become a certainty, many departments like Education, Finance, Municipal Administration, Medical and Health, etc have started scouting for temporary accommodation.

The Education department is said to have identified some buildings in the lower tank bund area. A final decision is likely to be taken next week.
