Telangana tourists who visit Nagarjunasagar and want to visit Nagarjunakonda were forced to go through the right bank launch station. This was not only causing inconvenience to tourists but also loss to the Telangana government.   

Nagarjunasagar (Nalgonda): All is set for Telangana ferries to ply between Nagarjunakonda and hill colony down station with in a week. Launch station manager Satyam informed that Telangana tourism department has got all necessary permissions from Central Archeology department to run ferries in river Krishna.

At the time of division of State, launch station located at the right bank has gone under Andhra Pradesh State’s jurisdiction. Telangana tourists who visit Nagarjunasagar and want to visit Nagarjunakonda were forced to go through the right bank launch station. This was not only causing inconvenience to tourists but also loss to the Telangana government.

After taking the recommendations of tourism department into consideration, the State government has decided to ply own ferries from left bank. As a result, the State government ordered two ferries with an estimated cost of Rs 3.2 crore. one of the ferries was got readied at the time of Krishna Pushkaramalu.

On August 5, 2016 it was officially inaugurated by Minister for Tourism of the State Ajmeera Chandulal, Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy and other public representatives. However, the ferry was confined to joy trips due to pending permissions from Archeology department. Since August 19, 2016 the ferry has been used for joy trips only.

For a joy trip of 8 km in a ferry in Krishna river from down park, officials concerned are charging Rs 30 for children and Rs 50 for adults. Meanwhile, just 10 days ago the officials concerned got necessary permission from Archeology department to run ferries to the destination Nagarjunakonda, which is 23 km from the down park launch station.

In this connection, officials set fare at Rs 120 for adults and Rs 100 for Children.Launch station manager Satyam informed that once officials of the Archeology department visit the station and inaugurate the ticket counter, they would start running ferries to Nagarjunakonda.

He further informed that if everything goes well, ferries would start plying in a week. He further informed that if water level in Sagar reservoir reaches to 570 feet, tourism department would start ferry plying between Sagar and historic place Srisailam with a special package, he added.
