Hyderabad: Throwing cold water on the aspirations of millions of job-seekers, the Telangana government has decided to put on hold new recruitments till the State’s finances, dented by demonetization, are back on track.

Consequently, the recruitment agencies TSPSC (Telangana State Public Service Commission) and District Selection Committees (DSCs) are unlikely to issue any fresh job notifications before the next financial year. The government has also asked the recruitment agencies to stop the process for regularization of the services of more than 30,000 contract employees identified in different wings.

The main reason for taking such a decision, according to sources, is the economic slowdown occasioned by the demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes. It may be recalled that the State Finance Department had sanctioned nearly 20,000 posts recently. Top sources in the Finance Department told The Hans India that the government had initially fast-tracked recruitment as the ruling TRS had promised to create one lakh posts if voted to power.

Having completed half the tenure, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had asked the Finance Department to take measures to sanction new posts. Hence, during the first two quarters of 2016-17, the Finance Department had asked all the departments to send proposals and thereafter sanctioned 20,000 posts.

The sources said of the total sanctioned posts, nearly 4,000 were for the newly formed districts. In all, 7,000 posts were sanctioned for the education department, minority, SC, ST and gurukulams; 400 posts for commercial taxes department and 6,000 posts for Panchayat Raj, Rural Development, Municipal Administration and Health departments.

The process for the regularisation of contract employees, particularly in the Education Department was in progress. Besides, filling of around 15,000 teacher posts was also in the pipeline.

Officials said that the total expenditure to be incurred in providing salaries to the sanctioned posts and regularisation of contract employees had been estimated to be around Rs 200 crore to Rs 300 crore per month. In the present circumstances, the government was not ready to bear the additional financial burden.

Officials indicated that the recruitment would be taken up only in the next financial year as the government was unable to cope with the economic crisis arising out of demonetisation at this juncture.
