Hyderabad: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department Minister K T Rama Rao on Monday asked the officials to prepare plans for beautification of lakes in the city and also for ensuring the lakes are not encroached upon.
The MAUD Minister along with Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao on Monday reviewed the lakes in the cities and towns in the State at Jala Saudha.

KTR said that municipal and Irrigation Department officials should work in coordination for the development of lakes in the cities. The Minister said that to begin with, the department would restore one lake per municipality/district head quarters in the first phase. He asked the officials to prepare effective plans for ensuring the lakes are not encroached and also for the beautification of these lakes.

The MAUD Minister directed the officials to fix the FTL of the lake and take up fencing around it. He asked the GHMC, HMDA, Water Board and Pollution Control Board to form a team and coordinate on the conservation of lakes. He wanted the Water Board to explore possibilities of setting up of STPs wherever the drain water enters into the lakes.

The officials gave a report to the Ministers with a plan worth Rs 100 crore for developing lakes in the city. The officials informed that fencing were erected at around 30 lakes and conserving them with the help of the locals.Minister KTR said that soon a special drive would be taken up in GHMC for restoration of the lakes. A nodal officer would be specially appointed for overseeing the lake developments, the Minister said.
