Hyderabad: The Albion bus that is kept at the Vijayawada Bus Station belonging to the Nizam period should be brought back to Hyderabad, said, P Anuradha Reddy, convenor, INTACH Telangana.

Heritage activists have been raising their voices to bring back all sculptures, paintings and thousands of artefacts belonging to the Telangana region and specifically from the erstwhile Nizam State that are housed in different museums and public places to Hyderabad.

All historical assets of pre-1956 belonged to Telangana and post-1956 could be assessed and divided, said Anuradha Reddy. On the request of INTACH, Satyanarayana, chairman, TSRTC, also spoke to his counterpart in Andhra Pradesh. He said, “The APSRTC said they would be protecting it and take care of the bus.” However, he said they would wait for a month and if the condition of the bus was the same, then another request would be made.

At the time of the formation of Andhra Pradesh, the State inherited 370 monuments. There were 625 heritage structures in the erstwhile Nizam State as the area extended to several areas that are now in Maharashtra and Karnataka. Today, with the third time division of the State, heritage activists are doubtful about the upkeep of heritage structures.
