Ahead of the ‘World Elder Abuse Awareness Day’, which is on June 15, this week’s Physical Literacy Days (PL Days) in Gachibowli was all about sensitising children about the issue.

Ahead of the ‘World Elder Abuse Awareness Day’, which is on June 15, this week’s Physical Literacy Days (PL Days) in Gachibowli was all about sensitising children about the issue.

In this regard, Heritage Foundation, Anvayaa, Startup Hyderabad and other likeminded organisations cametogether to create awareness about the cause. Youngsters participated in the 5K Run and 2K Walk that were held as part of the event.

A street play by city-based Nishubitha group was staged on how we are ignoring elders due to our schedules. Later, Dr Anjali and celebrity trainer Dinaz conducted fitness activities especially for the elderly.

Dr Gangadharan, Chairman of Heritage Foundation & Past President, International Federation of ageing addressed the participants and shared a few incidents how old parents were abandoned by their children.

“We have never seen how our parents have taken care of us when we were young. We have not known what they went through to bring us up. So, we are not sensitive enough to take care of them when they need us,” he said.

Mamatha Vegunta, an HR professional celebrated her mother's 70 years old birthday among the community. “What my mother needs from us is a bit of care and love.

It's my responsibility to be there for her when she needs me,” she said. Other activities included cycling, yoga, zumba, street games and dance.
